Cherry Grove with Garrett

My friend Garrett and I took a trip out to Cherry Grove last week. We stayed at the Belvedere! It was my first time staying at this fabled den of sleaze. In the evenings, we went to some of the bars and watched some of the performers. On one of the days I walked all the way over to Sunken Forest.

I very much enjoy Cherry Grove. It seems a bit more relaxed than the Pines, and there is plenty to do there. I especially like the bars with their live entertainment, featuring drag queens, muscle boys and porn stars who mingle freely with all.

Recent covers of roots magazine

As managing editor of roots magazine, I get to work with some fascinating images. Here are pictures of the covers of two of the most recent issues of roots, showing some of these wonderful photographs. I am very pleased with the way these turned out.

The first cover shown below features an image of a TrueTooth replica developed by Dr. L. Stephen Buchanan. The second cover shows the magnified insides of cleaned and disinfected root canal after treatment with a dental laser.

In my humble opinion, these are the nicest-looking covers of roots that I have prepared to date. Which is your favorite?

San Francisco for work — and a Segway adventure!

I just got back from San Francisco, where I attended the “CDA Presents the Art and Science of Dentistry” event, conducted by the California Dental Association. Dental Tribune published three issues of our at-show newspaper, and as part of my editorial assignments I photographed much of the activity in the exhibit hall and in the classrooms. I also wrote up a few articles about some of the educational offerings and some of the other activity.

After the work portion of the trip concluded, I stayed in town for an extra day to do a bit of sightseeing. The highlight was a Segway tour of the waterfront area. I had never been on a Segway before, and I was a bit apprehensive to do this on streets with such steep hills. But it turned out to be a great way to travel!
