As managing editor of roots magazine, I get to work with some fascinating images. Here are pictures of the covers of two of the most recent issues of roots, showing some of these wonderful photographs. I am very pleased with the way these turned out.
The first cover shown below features an image of a TrueTooth replica developed by Dr. L. Stephen Buchanan. The second cover shows the magnified insides of cleaned and disinfected root canal after treatment with a dental laser.
In my humble opinion, these are the nicest-looking covers of roots that I have prepared to date. Which is your favorite?
I just got back from San Francisco, where I attended the “CDA Presents the Art and Science of Dentistry” event, conducted by the California Dental Association. Dental Tribune published three issues of our at-show newspaper, and as part of my editorial assignments I photographed much of the activity in the exhibit hall and in the classrooms. I also wrote up a few articles about some of the educational offerings and some of the other activity.
After the work portion of the trip concluded, I stayed in town for an extra day to do a bit of sightseeing. The highlight was a Segway tour of the waterfront area. I had never been on a Segway before, and I was a bit apprehensive to do this on streets with such steep hills. But it turned out to be a great way to travel!
Here’s the latest issue of Roots magazine, which includes my article on the 2013 Annual Session of the American Association of Endodontists (AAE), held earlier this year in Honolulu.
An online version of the article is on the Dental Tribune website, direct link here.
If you have to go to Hawaii for a root canal conference, that is not a bad thing is it? Here’s my coverage of the recent American Association of Endodontists Annual Session, as it appears in the new issue of Endo Tribune. The content is also on the Dental Tribune website — article here, photo gallery here.

I just got back from Anaheim, Calif., where I attended “CDA Presents the Art and Science of Dentistry” for work. Dental Tribune published three “at-show” newspapers at this event, and I was one of the three editors who were assigned to cover the proceedings.
On one of the days I had two articles and pictures on Page 1, and on another day I photographed NBA legend Kareem Abdul-Jabbar and Retired MLB pitching ace Orel Hershiser, who were signing autographs in the exhibit hall.
I just got back from Atlanta, where I covered the 101st annual Hinman Dental Meeting for Dental Tribune. We published an at-show newspaper, and I was there to take pictures and write articles, and to work on-site on editorial production.
Here’s the cover of the latest issue of Endo Tribune — which includes my report from the recent Midwinter Meeting in Chicago, in which Dr. Allen Ali Nasseh, a practicing endodontist from Boston, announced recent developments in bioceramic nanotechnology for root canal treatment. The article is published on the Dental Tribune website — direct link here — or if you click on the page 1 image below, it will open in a larger window.
I have met Dr. Nasseh several times and have heard him speak. He is considered one of the most knowledgeable and innovative endodontists in the world.
It was another visit to Chicago recently, for the annual Midwinter Meeting, conducted by the Chicago Dental Society. I was there for Dental Tribune, where we published three issues of our daily at-show newspaper. I wrote up several articles and about the event, and I took plenty of photographs — mostly in the exhibit hall — for publication in print and online.
My article about the annual celebration conducted by America’s Toothfairy: National Children’s Health Foundation, is posted to the Dental Tribune website here; and about Curve Dental, here.
